Community Ministries

Daybreak Shelter

Grace Church has provided volunteers, personal care items, clothing and money to the Daybreak Shelter since it first began.  Volunteers from Grace prepare and serve dinner and breakfast at the shelter on the 3rd Monday of the month from October through May.  Grace Church also participates in various fundraising activities and special needs projects that benefit Daybreak.

Daybreak Shelter is a 24-hour shelter for men, women and children on East Cass Street in Joliet.  The shelter provides various services for clients including meals, sleeping quarters, showers, emergency supplies, transitional housing and counseling.  The program is largely staffed by community volunteers from local churches, civic groups and individuals and relies on donations of money, food and personal care items.

Ridgewood Food Pantry

We have been providing about 5 volunteers to help the Hispanic congregation at Trinity Church as they run the Ridgewood food pantry on the 1st Wednesday of each month as well as our usual 12 volunteers on the 3rd Wednesday of the month.  We also help through direct donation of food from our congregation.

Ridgewood United Community Ministries' new extension of 100-year-old Trinity UMC, is an exciting result of neighborhood visitations, dialogue, needs-assessment and cooperation in a community of 50% Latino, 30% African-American and 20% European descent.  Spanish language worship and Bible study, small group home studies, after-school program throughout the summer, inter-cultural celebrations, language classes, food pantry, and bilingual Sunday and Vacation Bible School are all in place.  These ministries are straining the budget of the small, aging congregation.  Funds are needed for supplies, training, teaching materials and program resources to address both-needs and opportunities.  Grace Church also participates in various fundraising activities and special needs projects that benefit Ridgewood.
